Change Your Reactions Without Choosing Between Parenting and Closeness

The Regulated Mama helps you stop your emotions from deciding what happens next so one heated moment doesn’t turn into another thing you regret or another reason your relationship feels harder.

You keep thinking your short fuse is the problem, but I’ve seen the same pattern over and over again in the moms I work with: your intentions are being hijacked by forces you don’t even realize are there.

The meaning that gets attached to what happens. Messaging that has become your inner voice and belief system. Mechanisms your brain defaults to so it can make sense of things as fast as possible. And your motivation to control yourself when you're sick of being sick & tired and the old way just feels easier.

That’s how a mom who loves her kids deeply can still end up behaving in ways that make closeness harder.

At some point, if you really want to show up differently in your relationship with your kids, you have to be willing to look honestly at the impact of what you've been doing up to this point.

And then do something about it.

I have compassion for the fact that you’re doing the best you can.

And still, doing the best you can doesn't mean avoiding behavior you already know is counterproductive to the relationship you want.

The work is learning to uphold your standards without treating the relationship like it doesn't matter as long as they're under your roof.

That’s why The Regulated Mama doesn't start with trying to calm your nerves.

It starts with understanding reactions and separating what happened from the meaning attached to it.

Because when you confuse what happened with the meaning that got attached to it, you start reacting to what you thought your kid’s intention was—or who you’re scared they’ll be when they get out into the real world—instead of teaching appropriate behavior and letting consistent consequences show them you don’t play.

Sometimes the situation is simply that you’ve asked for something three times and it still isn’t done. But by then, the meaning attached to it may be that they don’t respect you, they don’t care what you say, or they think you’re a joke.

Now you’re reacting to all of that, not just the undone task.

When you can separate the event from the meaning attached to it, you have room to choose a response you can stand behind later.

A regulated mom is not a mom who never gets angry.

She’s a mom who can decide what she does with that anger instead of letting the anger decide for her. She can make her anger clear without using fear, humiliation, intimidation, or emotional withdrawal to make the point. She can intentionally use her tone, body language, boundaries, and consistency to make it clear that she is not putting up with disrespect, disregard for household standards, or outright defiance.

Inside The Regulated Mama, you’ll get the Regulation Blueprint to help you SEE what is actually happening, TRACE the blind spots that keep hijacking your intentions, OWN the impact of the way you’ve been showing up, and BUILD the skills for the way you actually want to parent.

You’ll also get the Relational Health Library to help you build skills around boundaries, conflict, repair, and connection, and the Private Breakthrough Interactive Notebook—a guided reflection space that helps you separate what happened from the meaning attached to it, notice what was happening underneath your response, and get clear on what you want to do from there.

But wait! There's more! (I always wanted to say that.)

You’ll also have two live Q&A calls each month and a private community of moms doing the same honest work.

You can't control every choice your kid makes, and you can't force them to be close to you.

But you can make it a priority to change the behavior that makes closeness harder.

You can hear your kid without agreeing with everything they say.

You can try to understand them without excusing everything they do.

You can make space for closeness without sacrificing your standards.

If that’s the kind of mom you want to be, The Regulated Mama is where we do that work.
